The thing that is so brutal about poverty is that it touches every aspect of a family’s existence. Another brutal and ugly fact is that poverty’s impact stretches over generations. Parents cannot hand over to the next generation what they never had and, if this income and wealth deficit is left unfilled, poverty’s effects will extend to a family’s third and fourth generations, and perhaps beyond.
